I’m sure you’ve ever feel that you’d better cut off your own fingers rather than doing some tasks that your boss told you.

It happens to me sometimes. The only difference is that i prefer to cut my boss’s fingers than mine :)

So, how you can do the things that you hate without killing yourself first?

I have a step by step formula that I use everytime I’m facing a situation like this:

1. Kicking something as soon as I get the bad news task.

Goal : releasing the stress and hate feelings that you have.

The kicking time could vary from 5 minutes to half an hour. It depends on my hating level :) You may want to find some quiet place and see around before you start kicking something. Another method I found that has the same impact is screaming as loud as you can. Just don’t do it in front of your boss.

The kicking or screaming will help you to release the hate or stress feeling that you had. Even if it’s not drastically drop to zero. At least you have a way to relieve your stress.

2. Set a timer

Goal : do it as fast as you can

If the task is too hard to do, you may want to split it into small chunks. By splitting it, you won’t feel overwhelming and you’ll feel that it would be less stressing.

What you could do next is setup a timer for an hour for the first chunk. After that, you could take a rest for fifteen minutes or so, and continue to the next. It could go on until you finished all of them (if it’s short) or finishing 3-5 chunks at a time (if there’re too many of them).

Just remember, the more you working on it, the sooner it will finished. and you’ll get your freedom back!

3. Do anything I like AFTER I’m finished

Goal : having fun!

The only thing that I like to do after I’m finished are eating and sleeping.

Eating = gain my strength back
Sleeping = forget about the hell that i just passed

You may find another way of having fun, but don’t forget to do this last step. People tend to ignore rewarding themselves after they did a hard job. Your body need rest and your mind need a reward. Just give it to them :)

See you on the next post.

I used to have an information overload problem.

I mean, a REALLY BIG one!

I don’t know when it start, but I feel it every time I sit in front of my computer, and then my focus got distracted. I keep shifting back and forth from my work and browsing the net. I’m sure you know who the winner is, the internet!

The internet keeps me busy with so many information that i want to know, and make me forgot about other things.

It’s so easy to just forget what are you doing now and then read all information online that you feel interesting.

Yeah, I know you said that you probably need those information someday. But you know what? The information probably would sit there forever, but not with your work. I’m glad if you already know this. But if you’re not, you’re probably want to before your boss fired you.

I have 3 strategies here that I want to share with you about how you could kick out the information overload, and get back to your work as soon as possible.

Strategy #1 : Cut off the internet!

That’s the major distraction and root of all distraction for me. It may be a little bit hard for you if you need to use the internet for your work. But trust me, it will be worth it to just cut it off rather than roaming around the net and doing something unuseful that you called ‘work’.

But what if you really NEED the internet? Well, this will lead us to the Strategy #2.

Strategy #2 : Use the blocking addons

There are so many addons for Firefox out there that designed to help you control your time. I like to use several addons for my Firefox to block me out from accessing the website that I’m not supposed to go to while I’m working.

Here are several addons that you could try:
- LeechBlock
- BlockSite

Use the one that you see fit :)

Note: These addons only work for firefox browser.

Strategy #3 : Back to basic

There will be a time when you don’t want to cut off the internet and using the blocking software insted, even if your work didn’t need it. You will pretend (to yourself) that you’re doing your job online, but what you really did is finding a way to cheat the blocking software. When you find it, you won’t feel guilty because the blocking addons “let you out”.

And again, you’re back to the information overload.

How could I know this? Trust me, It happens to me several times a day :)

So, the only way I could get back to my work is shut down the computer, and get back to basic. I grabbed my pen and paper, and start working. This time, nothing distract me.

These strategies work like charms for me, and i hope it would work for you too :)

Ok, that’s it for now. I’ll see you on the next post.

I used to be a multitasker :)

But right now, I already stopped, and choose to FOCUS ON ONE TASK before I move on to the next.

I realize that multitasking is not for everyone. I found out that every time I do multitasking, the end result is not satisfied for me. When I multitasking something, the quality is down to the lowest and the worst.

It’s all changed when I start to learn on single-tasking. It’s very hard to do at first because my mind keep shifting backand forth trying to do something else while I should be doing just one task. After I start develop a new habit and train my mind to stick with one thing until I’m finished, the results are amazing!

Here are just several benefits that I get from single-tasking:

  • I started to work and finished faster
  • The quality of my works are the best (never drop to the lowest again!)
  • I rarely make errors in my works
  • I could read read comics faster (after my works done, though) :)

So, how did I do it?

Well, I just follow the 11 Tips from the post below:

How NOT To Multitask - Work Simpler and Saner

Adapt the 11 Tips into your daily life, and you’ll see how powerful it is to do Single-Tasking and get your work done faster and with a better quality.

I need to warn you about this. Some people are fine with multitasking and actually get more things done. But not all of them. Find out which condition you’re better in. After you figure out, dig deeper and learn how you could maximize the potential that you have, whether you’re a multitasker or a single-tasker.

I’ll see you on the next post :)

Ok, I promised to write more postings in here, but I just can’t skip these songs :) I found this accidentally when I was browsing in youtube.

The first song comes from an Indonesian’s band named Potret. This song is sooo… unique! It only has ONE lyric. Yep, you read it right. One lyric. I can’t find a higher quality video from youtube other than this, so please bear with this :)

This song is kinda new and I’m a huge fan of the vocalist. Her name is Melly Goeslaw. I like her voice. She created lots of hits since I know her. Well, here is the video :)

I Just Wanna Say I Love You

The second song came from an Indonesia’s band too, Ten 2 Five. Actually, I’m not a big fan of them because for me, their songs is too slow. This is the only song from them that I liked. This song is kind of old. The first time I heard this song is when I was in high school. This song has 2 versions. I will put both videos in here, and pick which one that you like best :)

Version 1 (my favorite!):

I Will Fly

Version 2:

I Will Fly

See ya on the next post!

PS: Sorry for the link. I’m trying to figure out how to embedded the full video in here. I’ll get back and replace it as soon as possible :)

Man… it’s been a long time since the last time I do some postings in here :)

Well, I think it’s because I’m too lazy to do some updates and also I got lots of distraction from my college. The professors in there keep bugging me not to skip any classes and they also said that I need to keep my focus on my education.

So I did it.

I spend about a month or so drowning in the library and doing my homeworks. Now I think I’ve already done all homework for this year, I could get back and write more postings in here :)

But wait!

I need to eat first… and clean up my room.

I’ll get back with new topics as fast as I can :)

See ya!
